We were only able to spend about 2 hours at The Zoo, but we packed in a lot in that short time! It had been several years since I had been to a Zoo. I was shocked to find out Admission was free, and even more shocked The St. Louis Zoo is spread out over 89 Acres, so make sure to wear comfy shoes! There is also a train that runs throughout the Zoo, if you choose to do this there is a small charge of $5 per person. We chose not to do the train (we needed the exercise) but if we get the chance to visit again and have more time we will do the railroad.
We saw the Storks and Ducks as soon as we stepped into the Zoo, they were beautiful! We visited the primates section, it was so fun to view them in their habitats! While we were viewing the primates we passed a Volunteer telling a group of school age children how the primates were created. I expected to hear the usual evolution story children in schools hear, but I was shocked when he told them the Biblical Creation story! It was a welcome change to hear, I think my jaw may have dropped in shock!
By far our most favorite section of the Zoo was The Sea Lion Sound! It is the most fun you can have above and below sea level, children of all ages love this Exhibit! You get to walk through an underwater tunnel right into the sea lions’ habitat where you’ll see the animals swimming all around you. One of the Sea Lions was very active and playful, a little girl used her jacket as a ribbon, and the Sea Lion put on quite a show for us! He spinned, twirled, and flipped right in front and on top of us.
After Sea Lion Sound we visited the Bears, it was a small exhibit since they are renovating the exhibit to make room for a large Polar Bear Exhibit. The St. Louis Zoo really is amazing and the fact that there is no admission fee is truly unheard of these days. It was one of the highlights of our week in St. Louis. We will definitely be going back and spending more time!
