Supermoon and Baby Sea Turtles

Well I was going to post a food recipe today but instead I thought I would share my exciting evening that I had last night. We went to the beach to see the Supermoon. We also wanted to see the beginning of the Perseid Meteor Shower, though we did not see any meteors we saw something even rarer, we watched as 54 baby Sea Turtles Hatched. We watched the moon until about 9:30 and decided to go home, we drove down the beach road one more time as we left. We saw people out on the beach with red lights and wondered if perhaps the turtles were hatching. Dad went down to see and sure enough they were, he ran back up to get us. We got to the nest in enough time to see several hatch then we went down with the turtle volunteers to the edge of the sand where the sand meets the water. Before we could let the baby turtles go we had to cover any crab holes so that the crabs would not come out and try to eat the turtles. Once we were sure the coast was safe the head volunteer placed ten turtles at a time onto the sand so they could crawl towards the ocean. She even let me release ten turtles, I was amazed at how strong their little fins were. I think I checked an item off my bucket list even though I never even thought I would have the chance to release baby sea turtles. It is a event that is not seen by very many people and we were so blessed to be a part of it. Thankfully all 54 turtles from last night made it safely into the ocean. The rest of the nest should hatch over the next few days. Between seeing the Supermoon and the baby turtles hatch I was in awe of God’s wonderful creation and it brought to mind the verse I have posted below.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalms 19:1

Below are a few pictures from our night. The pictures of the turtles are not very good since you can not use the flash, so I had to take them using the Red Lights.  The flash will disorient the baby sea turtles. I also have included a few pictures of the Supermoon.

My Most Favorite Place in the World

Today I thought I would let you in on my most favorite place in the world, Perdido Key, Pensacola, Florida. I grew up in Pensacola, and its my home!  After moving away from Pensacola eight years ago I have missed it so much and I am always counting the days until my next trip back.  It is absolutely beautiful with the sugar sand beaches and most unforgettable sunsets. When we moved to the Atlanta area we finally had a chance to go back home for a visit.  After being gone for so long it was like seeing a long lost friend which by the way when we visited last August we had a wonderful reunion with many long time friends!

A beautiful Sunset at Johnson’s Beach.

Johnson’s Beach is unrivaled in my mind for its beaches, Pensacola has two main beaches Johnson’s Beach which is on Perdido Key and Pensacola Beach which is also on an Island. Pensacola Beach is beautiful but is much more commercial and is a party beach, Johnson’s Beach is a National Sea Shore so it is protected from any building. Johnson’s has miles and miles of pristine sugar white beaches and turquoise water! Even on a rainy, cloudy day it shines like no other!

Check out I ♥ Perdido Key on Facebook, I love following their page to keep up with all of the Events on Perdido Key! They have some of the most amazing pictures of Perdido Key, I think you will truly enjoy it!

Beautiful Sunrise on Perdido Key.

There are few hotels right on Perdido Key but many Condos for very reasonable prices! When we stay right on Perdido Key we use VRBO to find a condo to stay in, we have been very pleased with their service!

A few of my favorite places to eat on Perdido Key are Lillian’s Pan Pizza, they have the most amazing Kansas City BBQ Chicken Pizza I have ever had, and I have tried countless BBQ Pizza’s! The Oyster Bar is another great choice for a very nice meal looking out at the Intercoastal, the Seafood platter is delish!  Whenever we want a quick meal that is amazing and laid back we go to Sunset Grill at Holiday Harbor, my parents absolutely love their Mahi-Mahi Fish Tacos and the grilled chicken sandwich is yummy.  Needless to say they have the most beautiful Sunsets that you can view right from there outdoor patio while enjoying the amazing
